About Matt Patricia
Matt Patricia is a seasoned football coach and three-time Super Bowl champion with over 25 years of coaching experience, including 20 seasons in the NFL. He currently serves as the Defensive Coordinator at Ohio State. He has held key roles such as Head Coach of the Detroit Lions, Defensive and Offensive Coordinator for the New England Patriots, and Senior Defensive Assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Patricia’s career highlights include six AFC Conference Championships, 13 AFC East Division titles, and leading one of the NFL's most formidable defenses as the Patriots' Defensive Coordinator from 2012 to 2017, securing two Super Bowl victories.
His contributions began in 2004 as an offensive assistant with the Patriots, where he earned his first Super Bowl ring and later worked as linebackers and safeties coach.
After his time with the Lions from 2018 to 2020, Patricia returned to New England as Senior Football Advisor and Offensive Line Coach, taking on responsibilities as de facto Offensive Coordinator in 2022. Most recently, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles as Senior Defensive Assistant.
Before the NFL, Patricia coached at Syracuse, Amherst, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he also earned a degree in aeronautical engineering before getting his master's degree in education at UMass. A native of Sherrill, NY, he began his journey as a standout football player at RPI, playing center and guard for the Engineers.
